MIL-STD-901D Shock Testing for Marine Power Measurement System

MTE Instruments required MIL-STD-901D shock testing for their OpTS – Shaft Power Meter, a precision system designed for demanding marine and defence applications. The objective was to validate the system’s durability and operational integrity under extreme shock conditions.

The Challenge:

Equipment deployed in marine and defence environments must withstand high-impact shock events without failure.

For MTE Instruments, the key challenge was ensuring that the OpTS system could maintain performance and structural integrity when exposed to severe mechanical shock conditions, as required by MIL-STD-901D standards.

Failure to meet these requirements could compromise system reliability in mission-critical applications.

Testing Requirements

Compliance with MIL-STD-901D shock testing standards

Testing using a Light Weight Shock Machine (LWSM)

Validation of both mechanical durability and operational performance

Simulation of real-world shock conditions typical in naval environments

ESL Lab's Solution

ESL Labs designed and executed a customized shock testing program using a certified Light Weight Shock Machine to replicate the required MIL-STD-901D conditions.

Our team conducted controlled shock testing aligned with military specifications. Monitored system response and performance throughout testing. Provided precise data acquisition to validate results. Supported the client through the full qualification process.

The result was a successful validation of the OpTS – Shaft Power Meter, confirming its ability to perform reliably in high-impact marine and defence environments.
