At ESL Labs, we can perform many of the common corrosion tests and help pinpoint potential corrosion problems with your product.
Corrosion has been the downfall of many otherwise excellent products. We perform a variety of tests on paint samples, as well as complete products. Whether you're concerned about salt fog, fluid exposure, or accelerated weathering, our environmental testing lab is equipped to provide thorough and accurate results.

Salt Fog Corrosion Testing (ASTM B117, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO 160D)
- NEW larger chamber size: 2.14 x 2.14 x 2.45 m high (7 ft x 7 ft x 8 ft high)
- Smaller chamber size: 1.83 x 0.91 x 1.22 m high (6 ft x 3 ft x 4 ft high)
- Test Type: Simulates salt fog conditions to assess corrosion resistance in harsh environments
- Standards Compliance: Meets ASTM B117, MIL-STD-810, and RTCA DO 160D standards

Immersion Testing (RTCA DO-160):
- Test Conditions: Uses natural or simulated seawater, industrial chemicals, and other fluids to evaluate corrosion resistance
- Fluid Susceptibility Testing: Performed according to RTCA DO-160 and other relevant standards

Accelerated Weathering Testing (ASTM G53):
- Test Method: Fluorescent UV and condensation cycles (QUV) as per ASTM G53
- Lamp Options: Choice of several lamp types including UVA (351 or 340 nm peak), UVB (313 nm peak)
- Panel Testing: Up to 51 panels (10 x 20 cm or 3 in x 6 in) at once

Prohesion Testing (ASTM G85/A5):
- Test Method: Cyclic dilute electrolyte test as per ASTM G85/A5
- Chamber Size: 1.18 x 0.79 x 0.98 m (3 ft x 2 ft x 2.5 ft)
Why Corrosion Testing is Essential
Corrosion testing is fundamental to understanding how materials perform under simulated service conditions. It helps ensure that products meet their projected design life and perform well in environments where corrosion is a concern. By simulating exposure to various corrosive elements – such as salt fog, industrial chemicals, and UV radiation – our environmental testing services help pinpoint vulnerabilities before they impact your product in the field.
Tests can range from a few hours to more than a month, depending on the type of exposure and the material being tested. Whether you are testing individual components or complete products, our lab is equipped to assess the impact of corrosion on your designs, ensuring that they will stand the test of time in demanding conditions.
Corrosion occurs when the atoms on a metal surface are oxidized, damaging the surface and weakening the product. Our comprehensive testing methods help prevent such damage by identifying weak spots and allowing for product improvements.
